Now that the busy Christmas season is over, the hubs and I decided its time for a change, and it's a BIG one.
time to become quitters of the smoking kind
It's been almost a week since we cut back. We were both a pack a day smokers, now we're down to a half a pack. When I think about the the day in the nearing future when I'll wake up and put a patch on, I dread it. I know I will miss it especially after eating a meal, driving from here to there, after a stressful meeting, and after amazing sex. But I know why I need to quit.
It's been almost 7 years and it's a hard quit. It's hard to talk to people about it. People who have NEVER smoked don't get it and those who have quit offer too much 'help'. And when there is a slip, the disappointment from those friends and family members is a lot to handle. I read an article today about New Years resolutions, and smoking was at the top of the list. This line jumped out at me "If you're among the millions who will try to kick the habit this weekend, experts say you're more likely to succeed if you accept the fact that you will fail". Failure is an option, when it happens, just try again. It's not the end of the world, just take one day at a time. Don't criticize me, don't over encourage, and don't ask me how it's going. Because more than likely I haven't thought about it and as soon as you bring it up my brain will start thinking about wanting a smoke, and that DOESN'T help.
So here's to becoming a quitter!
