it's been a while

oh hey, yeah I have a blog. . .

It's been a busy few weeks. Holidays, time off work, family in town, thinking I was pregnant, refinancing the house, looking for a newer car. Like I said, busy.

Easter was amazing this year. My poppy's whole side of the family was in town. Got to finally meet my youngest cousins. 3 days together was NOT long enough, but until next time, we made some great memories! Saying goodbye was hard, I cried all the way back to work and sat at my desk with my sunglasses on for about an hour. What can I say, I'm emotional.

My cousin Kimbe got engaged! I knew when Jason was going to ask and how but I was nervous the entire time waiting for her to call me. It sucks that she's on the west coast now, but we talk almost everyday. I cried.

With all the crying and other weird things, I though I might be pregnant, but of course, nope. When you plan nothing ever works out. Chris tells me I'm bad about that. Needing to know every little detail. Well, it hasn't worked right since we've been together. We plan and most everything turns out fine, but there is always something that blows up. So, no more planning, no counting days, no preparing, just doing. ;) when it happens it happens. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I just have to keep telling myself that. I have a few good friends that help remind me of that too.

With the way interest rates have been, we decided it was time to refinance the house, currently in the process, has been moving pretty quick. Friday I talked to a mortgage lender at my personal bank, Monday morning I e-mailed her all my information, Monday afternoon I went into the bank to go over and sign the loan application and all the other papers, Thursday the appraiser is coming out to the house. Hopefully we'll close before the end of the month!   FAST   Saving me some good money.

My car is dying. Or it's kinda like it already has but we keep shocking it back to life. I am tired of putting money into it to fix it when death is in it's near future. Why waste the money on a lost cause, when you can put it toward something newer? I need it bad! and it's looking like Ellen isn't going to be calling to tell me she's giving me a new car anytime soon. So we've been researching different makes and models. I think I've narrowed it down to either a Ford Fusion or Focus. 4 door. This will be my mommy car (Kimbe's words) so it needs to be safe and practical. (see there's that planning thing again, but it is justified!)

I am excited with everything we've been up doing. I'm just ready for a break. I need some sleep.

Birthday Weekend

Saturday was my Hubs' birthday. I decided to kind of make a weekend out of it. Nothing wild and crazy spectacular, but just spending time with him, friends, and family.

Friday, we cooked dinner at home and had a Happy Birthday cookie cake. After dinner we stayed up and watched the UK game. Screamed at the tv, cheered, and celebrated their win!

Happy 32nd  :)

Saturday, I took him to Huber's for lunch. He had never been, so I thought it would be fun. Our friends joined us and we had a yummy lunch and bought some apple butter at the gift store. It was a little colder than it had been recently and there were very few people there. We definitely need to make another trip when the weather is a little nicer later in the year and then we can go pick fresh fruit and veggies.

at Huber's

Later that night, we went out to dinner with his brother and girlfriend at Rafferty's. The place was packed with RED and every tv (about 20) had the UofL game on. Winning that game would send the Cards to the Final 4 for the first time in years. The place was loud and I could judge by the sounds from the people whether the cards did something good or not. In the end they won (after giving a few of my friends heart attacks) and all was good in the city. Except the riots, and storms of people flooding the downtown area in celebration. haha

Sunday, we went to my parent's house to have a joint celebration of the hubs' and brother's birthdays. 32 and 21. But before we could eat, we had to watch the UK game. The one that if we won, would send us to the Final 4 (for the 2nd time in a row) and match us against UofL. UK came out on top and this state got what it wanted, what people have been dreaming of for years, what will cause this great state of Kentucky to probably implode next Saturday. A game between to rivals, UK vs UofL for a NCAA championship berth. Something that has NEVER happened in the history of college basketball. Read this for further understanding what this matchup means for our state: It’s Armageddon, catered by KFC.

German Chocolate cupcakes

All and all it was a fantastic birthday weekend with the hubs. I am now looking forward to surviving next Saturday. If you can't find me after 6:09 pm it's because I am locked in my bedroom with the game on. GO CATS!

Sickness

We have been dealing with a sick puppy for over a week now. It has not been fun.

Apollo

We had decided to have him neutered and he had to go in for a pre-surgery checkup. Listen to his heart, lungs, and verify he has 2 nuts. (haha) So I talked to Dr. Wood (appropriate name after talking about neutering) about his vomiting. We got some pills and after 3 pills a day for 3 days he was finally able to eat and drink and keep everything down. A day and a half later I wake up to diarrhea ALL over my kitchen. He even managed to get it on my cabinet doors. GROSS

It took an emotional toll of both the hubs and I. We felt helpless. Not knowing what was wrong with him. He was constantly sleeping and not wanting to play, not like him. We didn't know who this dog was. He hadn't gotten into anything, and we couldn't figure out what would cause him to get sick like this. After 2 days of nasty poop the Hubs took him back to the vet. He talked with Dr. Wood and came to the conclusion that a PIG EAR was to blame.

My vet HATES pig ears, raw hides, and any equivalent to them. She said when you give these 'treats' to your dogs pieces are swallowed before they are chewed. If they are large pieces they can cause an obstruction (requiring surgery to have it removed) or if they are smaller pieces they float around in the stomach causing irritation (which is what happened to Apollo). These treats take forever to digest thus causing problems to last longer than normal. Once we got Apollo to stop throwing up and keep food down, it pushed his little piece of pig ear into his intestines and had been irritating his bowels (causing the diarrhea). So from now on, the only treats my dogs get are milk bones!

feeling a little better

Apollo had his first 'normal' poop last night. I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I can finally stop worrying (for now). The baby is finally on the mend and feeling better just in time to go back to the vet on Monday to lose his nuts!  I'm such a mean mommy  :)

Super Tuesday

More like super weekend!

I had a fantastic weekend. Saturday, I got up at the crack of dawn to watch one of my baby cousins (Ronny, who is so not a baby anymore) run in a track meet. Spent the entire day with his mother and brother (Kenny), my mammie, and the gramma. Got to celebrate Kenny's 17th birthday, man I feel OLD. I was 10 when he was born. It's great to see how that incredibly cute baby has grown over the years into a young man. I can't wait to see what he does with his life. A few other family members showed up for the celebration. Gramma had a house full. I'm sure she enjoyed half of her enormous family being together, but I know it wore her out. Had great conversations about money, family, moving, politics, and religion. Only with family can you talk about all that and leave still loving one another. haha

Sunday, one of the besties came over and hung out for a couple of hours. Watched my Cats play an awesome game and go 16-0 in the SEC conference. Perfection is a sweet reward! The hubs and I went and did a little recon on how we're going to fix our kitchen. Can't do what we originally had planned with the cabinets. We're going to save money but not time. Looking like I'll be without a kitchen for a week or two once we get started but I did find a new sink that I am in love with. It was nice being out and about spending time with the hubs. Went and saw his parents and their new puppy, who is full of bouncy energy. haha He is so much fun! Wrapped up the night with a delish dinner at penn station. Their chicken salad is pretty damn tasty.

I love weekends that are busy and filled with family and friends. I believe this was the start of many weekends like this to come. YAY for spring, family, friends, and FUN!

Uterus & Lent

It's been 12 days since I quit taking my birth control. The realization of taking something for 9.5 years and the effects it has on your body have set it. The routine of taking it every night after I brush my teeth makes me feel like I'm forgetting something before I go to bed and then I lay there thinking 'have i forgotten to do something' and then I think about it for far too long and have trouble falling asleep. Crazy, I know!

Valentine's Day became a sob fest. The hubs got me a super sweet card that made me cry a little and then some family issues came up and I cried for 20 minutes. Not just a little cry but a full blown out sob, the faucets were turned on as wide open as they would go and I couldn't breathe. DAMN HORMONES!!

My stomach has been hurting since Saturday night. I had no idea what was wrong, until Wednesday morning. I woke up and I didn't feel like eating, frankly I didn't feel like doing anything except going back to bed. As I sat down on the couch, to force breakfast down, my stomach and lower back hurt. I thought, 'oh I know this feeling, my uterus is being a BITCH!' My hubs described it best when asking about it, 'so it's like you're on your period, but you aren't?' EXACTLY the bod is missing all the hormones and I am cramping something terrible. I had forgotten what real period cramps felt like and since I'm not supposed to start for another 15 days I was expecting it. I hate this and I know I'm gonna miss my 2 day periods :(

My face looks like a mine field! I feel like I'm a freshman again having horrible break outs. WTF? I'm 28 years old (well almost) I should not be getting pimples like this.

I don't think I was ready for all this change just to have a baby. I can only imagine what I will be like once I'm actually pregnant. God I hope it's better than this.

So speaking of God, yesterday was Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. I am giving up sodas! no more for this chick :) need to get used to not drinking them since I won't be able to once I'm preggers, right?!

Anyway, I went to worship at work because one of my co-workers was preaching and I love listening to him. He started out talking about asking what was the one most important thing in your life. Gave the example, 'if your house is on fire and you had 30 seconds, what would you grab?'. He continued on with his sermon and this sentence stuck out and stayed with me, 'When you have a child, some primeval disposition is awakened in your soul. And like my parent's before me, I find myself willing to give anything for my children.' Got me thinking, at this very moment, the most important things to me are my hubs and the dogs. At some point (in the nearer future) that will change. Our primeval disposition will be awakened and the most important thing to us will be our child. I wonder if we would fight each other to save the babe if our house was on fire. haha

I think the thing to remember is how to distribute importance equally and not let one thing rule all the rest.

Anxiety and Emotions don't mix well

So the hubs and I have been discussing children more and more lately. We really have no 'set' plans. We have been been married for almost 4 years. We've waited long enough. Financially we aren't quite ready (but they always say "you never have enough money to have kids!"); he is ready; me, I've been teetering on the idea. Some days I'm like 'let's do it now' and others I'm like 'yeah SO not ready yet'.

We have decided once this month's birth control pack was empty, we weren't going to refill. I called the pharmacy and removed my prescription from the ready-fill program. As I was on the phone my heart started beating a little fast, nervousness set in, I got excited, the idea was setting in and all the emotions scared the crap out of me. It passed quickly and I was okay again.

That was a little over a week ago and NOW I have 10 pills left. Every night I take one more and there is one less left. The anxiety and emotions grow a little bigger every night when more pills disappear, I go to bed, wake up and forget about it and start all over the next night. What is going on in my brain???

I know it's a big decision, life changing, and maybe that's what is wrong. Our life is going to be drastically different and I know this—sleepless nights, diapers, numerous feedings, the dogs, our tiny house, hospital bills. I fear the future and I know I shouldn't but I'm having a hard time turning it off. Am I the only one who has gone through this? I am confident I am not but it still drives me crazy.

Last night was the season finale of Tori & Dean. This season Tori was pregnant with her 3rd baby. I was surprised at how much they showed of Hatti's birth. Lot's of home video footage at the hospital. Tori talked a lot about the love this child will be born into. I'm not gonna lie, I cried through the whole thing. Seeing the way she interacts with Liam and Stella (her first 2 kids), it's all about the love of family. While she was in the birthing room she said she wasn't ready yet to have baby yet, but once they found out it was a girl and Hatti cried, you could see Tori change. She was a new mommy all over again. (and I bawled again)

Watching that episode helped me realize it's okay to have fear and be scared. I am hoping once the waiting is over and we move forward, all the anxiety will take a long walk off a short pier and I can start be excited about our future and how much FUN and full of LOVE it will be and have. Chris and I have so much love for one another, it carries us everyday. That is what I have been clinging to with all my strength, knowing that the love we have for one another and the amazing families and friends we have, will get us through anything life throws at us. My favorite band said it best:

—I hate breaking this news here because my mother and some family members follow my blog and I don't want them to know before I'm ready to let the cat out of the bag, I have fantastical ideas on how to surprise everyone. But this is my place to vent and get shit off my chest.—So here is my disclaimer for this post:

We have NOT started trying! Don't ask cause I won't tell you. Don't expect it to be soon, we aren't planning anything after the next 10 days. It will happen when it happens. But someday in the future when my uncle asks me if 'I have a bun in the oven yet' he will get a different answer than he's used too.   :)

Burpees can kiss my ASS!

The time has come for a body over haul. After I got married I gained at least 20lbs and got lazy and lost a lot of muscle mass. I want to tone up and lose some weight before the hubs and I decide to have children. So last night I started an exercise circuit at home. (thank you pinterest) My bod is screaming at me today and I am SO sore, but it feels SO good. I slept like a rock last night and woke up feeling great!

I have a couple different circuits that I'm going to alternate between days. Most are quick and easy, takes only 10 minutes to get through and you do them 3 to 4 times. Really gets the heart rate going. Jumping jacks, jump rope, push ups, crunches, lunges, sumo squats, wall sits (which I can only do for maybe 20 seconds at a time right now, and of course the dogs think they can help, haha) and BURPEES. I hate them, really HATE them. They kicked my ass last night. I don't know how people can do 10 at a time. I could barely do 3. I guess I need to get in a little better shape before I can knock out 10 or more.

I really want to get a yoga ball so I can start doing some of those exercises too and some small hand weights. Need to add that cost into my budget. Tonight I'm going to dust off the treadmill and get some walking in and do one of the shorter circuits. I think my rotation will work out nice. I plan to get the hubs involved too, so we can work off that squishy beer belly. hahaha

Right now I weigh about 160 and wear a size 10. Here's to kicking that 160lbs in the ass!

Quality Time

I spent some time with my gramma this past Saturday. The woman can talk but most of all she really knows how to listen. She doesn't judge. Life, love, loss, work, money, and family were among topics we talked about. No matter how long I am there, it doesn't seem to be long enough. Time goes by so fast when we are together.

The one person I always want to talk and hear about is my granddaddy (her husband). He died when I was 10 months old, almost 27 years ago. I always wonder what my life would have been like if he would have been here. She does too. I learned a little more about his personality and attitude. Got to hear some fun stories about my mammie and her sister and brothers. Those never get old. haha

When I showed up and hugged and kissed her. She said, 'you smell really good, is it your hair? wearing perfume?' Yes gramma, all of that and the fact that I've been trying to quit smoking. She was excited! We talked about how hard it's been. How my days at work go by so fast but once I get home it gets difficult. She said, 'If it helps, treat it like dessert. Have one, to help take the edge off and then go do something "FUN".' Now, I don't feel so bad for doing that.  :) Gramma says it's okay and that's how she went about quitting all those years ago. Some days I don't have one at all, but the weekends are always harder. When I'm bored and not busy, it's all I want. It's getting easier with every passing day.

One day at a time, right?

Day 2

I feel like clawing someone's eyes out and it's only 7:22am. That's NOT good.

Day 1 wasn't that bad, flew by actually, even with bad news of a death close to the family. My urges to go out and light up were controllable. BUT this morning, a whole different story. I'm on edge, driving into work I was surrounded by idiots, and red lights everywhere! I always get to work before the rest of my coworkers, so I've had a little time to cool down, but they'll be rolling in soon and I really don't want to talk to anyone. I hate cutting myself off like that but it's better than snapping at someone.

I have the patch on my arm today and it's irritating the crap out of me. It itches, really BAD, about every 30 minutes. I know it's doing it's job but damn.

The joys of quitting smoking. I need to invest in some suckers tonight, or maybe some hard cinnamon candies.

Time Flies

My hubs and I are getting close to our 4th wedding anni, but 4 days ago we celebrated our 9th New Years Eve together.

This year we were lucky enough to spend it with some really good friends who are more like family. As the seconds ticked away, I thought 'WOW, 9 years!'. Where does the time go? I guess the statement 'time flies when you're having fun' is very much TRUE! Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj were awesome, the ball dropped, everyone hugged and kissed, and we went back to playing cards.

As I sat there, I remembered our 1st NYE, it was wild. As well was our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The last 5 have been less wild. Last year we spent it at home being lazy on the couch with our dogs. I think we switched the tv over at 11:58 to watch the ball drop and then turned it back to whatever we were watching. NO exciting, wild night. haha Crazy how things change the older you get. Getting bat shit crazy drunk and passing out on the bathroom floor isn't as appealing as it was 9 years ago.

I am lucky to have this amazing man in my life. Here's to many more NYEs. Hope yours was a fantastic time no matter how you spent it.
